Suzu and Jack follows the tumultuous relationship between 10-year-old Suzu Fallon and his emotionally distant, alcoholic father, Jack. Trapped in a suffocating home filled with unresolved trauma, their daily lives spiral into conflict, as they grapple with isolation, abuse, and the emotional decay consuming them both. It's also a comedy.
KIDDIE POOL
The old rotting kiddie pool in the backyard. Suzu used to play in it, Suzu used to pee in it, Jack never changed the water. Now, Suzu continues to play in it, just not all the way. He checks for insects, like mosquitos, or dunks his toys into it, often pretending it's a swamp.
BEDS
Top right: Suzu's bed. He likes to sleep with his many plsuhies. Pictured here is only three of many.
Bottom left: Jack's bed. He sleeps with his phone in his bed, scrolling aimlessly every night.
SHOE PRINT
Well, someone stomped him.
THE FALLON HOUSE - KITCHEN - NIGHT
Jack often stays up late drinking and wallowing in the kitchen alone while Suzu sleeps, the only time he gets real peace and quiet.
GUTS N' WIRES
What's inside of Suzu? Wires, of course! Little iPad baby.
SUZU AND JACK
This is why Jack sometimes calls Suzu "little monkey."
SUZU SHOVES HIS HEAD INTO THE TOILET
Such a strange child. He has issues. And fixations. And other, still developing things too. He'll understand when he's older.
Ellie
Ellie is Suzu's estranged mother. She left because of Jack, but left Suzu with him. She never wanted to be a mother.
Her name was almost Peggy, but Ellie is better.
NATE AND SUZU
Nate is a bully. Suzu is the perfect victim. He makes fun of him for always having his underwear sticking out. Suzu swears it doesn't bother him, but the teasing sure does.
NATE AND MINDY
Nate is a cocky asshole, Mindy is the sweetest girl in class. Suzu and Nate both like-like Mindy. Mindy likes both of them. They hate each other. It gets complicated on the schoolyard.
BASEBALL
Jack forces Suzu to play baseball. Not becuase he's living out some failed dream, nah, he just thinks Suzu needs it in order to "toughen up." All that really happens is teammates and the coach yelling at Suzu for playing so poorly.
DUCT TAPE
Nate got a hold of his dad's duct tape.
Jenny
Jenelle "Jenny" Lavine is one of five children and Suzu's nextdoor neighbor. She's a little older than Suzu, and comes from what Suzu and Jack perceive as an "outsider" culture, but she befriends the googly-eyed ginger anyway.
